Update - Several of the comments have mentioned the chimney so I thought I'd add this information about it. Until 2000 this circular brick tower served as a smokestack for the power plant of the former Polk Youth Center prison. Most of the prison buildings have been torn down, but the Museum kept the tower because it is like a monument on the horizon.
Marvellous!
ReplyDeleteWonderful silhouette - the branches look almost like lace.
ReplyDeleteEvery body will wonder what this chimney is doing here. It's just to make a good subject for Monochrome. Good, Carver.
ReplyDeleteWonderful juxtaposition of chimney and tree.
ReplyDeleteGreat mono shot!
ReplyDeleteThis tree is majestic :)Great in monochrome :)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to update the post too but since several of you mentioned the chimney I thought I'd add this information from the museum in the comments: "Until 2000 this circular brick tower served as a smokestack for the power plant of the former Polk Youth Center prison. Most of the prison buildings have been torn down, but the Museum kept the tower because it is like a monument on the horizon."

ReplyDeletedidn't notice the tower until you mention it, I do love the trees, I think they are such wonderful subject to photograph
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I love the spread of the branches of the tree. That chimney adds to the overall appeal of this picture. Great work.
ReplyDeleteTo me the smoke stack acted like a second trunk to the tree. A nice effect.
ReplyDeleteHey Carver! This makes a great monochrome shot. So far, only 49 people are participating in Monochrome Monday. It is kind of fun to switch to Black and White.
ReplyDeleteNice to keep a part of the past for future reference....
ReplyDeleteWonderful shot!
ReplyDeleteOh Carver, the tree and the chimney are such perfect contrasts ..
ReplyDeleteWhat a great shot. Thanks for the history of the chimney and showing it again.
ReplyDeleteCool shot, a bare tree always lends itself well to black and white.
ReplyDeleteI was just driving by there weekend before last and wondering why they'd left that in place after everything else was torn down. And I remember thinking at the time that you'd probably know.
ReplyDeleteHow weird is that?
This is truly magnificent.
ReplyDeleteLove this photo, it really works in b&w too.
ReplyDeleteI love the juxtaposition of the tree and the tower, Carver! :) My Monochrome shot is up today! :)
