SkyWatch Friday: The moon rising, setting and rising again

The last day of January was clear and that night I saw the moon rise through the trees and over snow topped roof.
Photobucket
A little later the moon was above the trees and shining like a beacon on the snowy world.
Photobucket
The next morning I managed to catch the moon setting while the sun rose.
Photobucket
I was amused by how the rooster in the weather vane looked like it was in the trees with the birds below.
Photobucket
As the sky got light the moon was easier and easier to photograph.
Photobucket
I like the way it looks with the moon over snow topped rooftops while setting, in a different way from the night rising shot.
Photobucket
I took so many different photographs because it was enchanting to me to capture the setting moon on the first day of February.
Photobucket
I find it easier to photograph the moon during the day time than at night because I don't have the right kind of camera equipment for night shots to be optimal.
Photobucket
That night I had another shot at the rising moon and I like the way it almost looks like a tree ornament.

  8. The daytime shots are beautiful. The moon is so lovely and I can't resist either! As for the night shots, you don't need special equipment, just a manual camera. And what I realised was that it didn't need anything like the long exposures I was using. To get the detail at night that you have in your daytime shots you could try something like 200 ISO at F8 for 1/100. This worked for me in the summer but I need to extend the exposure in the winter. Hope you can try this and see how it works for you.

  10. I feel like reading "Good Night Moon" or "I see the moon and the moon sees me..." I've got rooster songs, too, but I'll spare you those.

Lovely shots of your views of the moon.

  14. Sorry I'm so late getting here, had an appointment, but your moon shots are absolutely gorgeous! How wonderful to be able to catch these! Needless to say the moon here was mostly covered by clouds. And then the other night I woke up and glanced out the window and there it was!! in all it's glory and I swear it was laughing at me because I was so dopey I couldn't even find my camera let alone take picture. So, I'm really glad you got these! Have a great weekend, Carver!!

  16. Your moon captures are well done. We have the same problem with taking the moon shots during night time. I live in the city so there are so many bright lights, and yes, I do not have the right lens.

  31. I tried to do the moon, too, when it was a perigee moon. You're right, success is illusive. :-)
