Thanks to everyone for visiting and I'm not sure but for those asking, I think the bird was a gull. It was pretty far away and there aren't usually many gulls at this lake this time of year (mostly geese, ducks, great blue herons and a few others) but there are gulls later in autumn and I think that's what it was (an early gull).

That's a beautiful lake, great shot! I love your pictures of the greenway below, if I lived there I'd be on those trails all the time.
