The Weekend in Black and White: tree scribbler

I guess tree carver would be a more accurate title but I had nothing to do with the markings on the tree, so I want to leave my name off the title.

  1. Yes, I'm sure you don't want to be blamed for defacing trees. And yet, people have been carving their names or the names of their loved ones in trees since time eternal, it seems. I've never found it necessary, but I've never carried a pocketknife, either.
    Beautiful photo!!

  2. These remind me a bit of tattoos. Not necessary and often unwanted after Love faded & hard to remove without leaving scars.

    But it's a beautiful shot nonetheless! :)

  4. This action hurts the trees! And the tree wails...I'm glad you don't carve your name silly on them trees!

  7. Monochrome brings the fine textures on the tree trunk dramatically alive! Great shot!

  8. I feel a bit sorry for the tree. I don't think it likes being carved. But the texture is beautiful in the photo.

  9. Love the photo...I like what Nicole said about the trees reminding her of tattoos. I would never soot into one, but I always read the names that appear and wonder about the history behind them.

  10. I think carving names on a tree is a stupid thing to do...

  11. Everyone's well before me with the comments! Fine texture though, and I found myself studying the markings.

  12. People , young kids like to crave a heart and their names. How embarrass it will be when they have another current love one.

  14. Great shot. I do not understand why people want to inscribe their names there.
