Saturday I was on my way to the grocery store and I was thinking to myself, I need to remember to get bird seed because we are likely to have snow on Monday and sleet on Tuesday.
Since I was thinking about snow, at first the snow that started falling seemed like part of my train of thought and then I went, wait a minute, what's that white stuff coming down on my car. That's not supposed to happen for a few days.
It didn't amount to much but it was sort of amusing how I was thinking about getting some food for the wildlife in anticipation of a future event and all of the sudden it started snowing.
I have enjoyed photographing the birds this winter. Some like the carolina chickadee below blend into the trees while others are easier to spot.
I was shooting the male cardinal (bottom of shot below) and didn't even notice the female cardinal above him until I downloaded the photographs.
The brown thrasher has a rather large mouth when it's open.
The woodpecker is very shy and I have to be careful even when photographing from the window lest I scare him off.
The little swinger was fun to watch. He seemed very happy hopping around on my deck swing. I didn't notice my deck swing was growing some kind of fungus until I looked at this shot. Oh well.
Sunday was a beautiful day but very cold.
I'm writing this post on Sunday, although I'll wait and post it on Monday. I imagine I'll be photographing the birds in the snow Monday since I work from home, but I tend to work on posts the day or so before I post them.

Love Cardinal couple ..
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful! The squirrel is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteFunny how sometimes it’s not quite clear if reality equals thought or the other way around. I love these photos and how birds settled on the bare branches and your bench. I have a bench much like yours with the same odd growth.:) The two cardinals remind me of the blue jays in BC. They make a pretty decoration on the tree!
ReplyDeleteThese photos are really beautiful! You have so many colourful birds in your area. They looks so exotic.
ReplyDeleteyou have beautiful neighbors visiting you.
ReplyDeletei feel negligent if i don't put out bird seed to the ones that visit me regularly.
have a lovely week.
Very coll winter shots. Birds look great.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love all of your birds, Carver! The one with the big, open mouth looks serious about wanting food!! The Cardinals are beautiful! Such a variety! I love it! Hope you have a great week! Stay warm!

Delightful bird photos, and wonderful to know you can make it snow - you never know what you can do until you try, as God said to Noah.

What a lovely series of bird shot. I especially like the woodpecker and the cardinal. I was shooting a woodpecker yesterday while he was chowing down on one of our bird feeders. I really enjoyed reading and looking at this post.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful series, the cardinals captured so well.
ReplyDeleteYour birds are all at my feeders today!
ReplyDeleteHeart warming photos of birds in winter time. The cardinals' picture is my favourite.
ReplyDeleteMost people run to the store before a storm to buy bread, milk, and toilet paper. We rush to make sure we have enough bird seed. :)
ReplyDeleteThe birds are beautiful, and their chirps so soothing!
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful header on the berries!
Wow look at the size of those snow flakes! It is snowing here today too but tiny flakes. Seems like it is always either snowing or below zero around here these days. Loved all the birds as well - we have an awful lot of the same types hanging around our bird feeder there!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Carver!
You do have some pretty birds!
