ABC Wednesday: Elegant Entrance

Everyone who visits Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, U.S. can enter through the elegant entrance in the back of the Colonial Governor's mansion. Of course back when the colonial governor lived there, I suspect entering uninvited wouldn't be encouraged.

  17. Thanks to everyone for visiting. Several have asked if the coat of arms is a British one. I assume it is since this was the colonial Governor's palace and seven Royal Governor's lived there followed by Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson drew up plans for renovating the palace when he was the Virginia governor but they weren't implemented as the decision was made to move the government to Richmond, VA. Most of the palace is as it was during the Royal Governor's time but they do discuss, in the tour, when Patrick Henry was Governor and also have some of Jefferson's drawings when he considered changes during his time there.
