The Weekend in Black and White: Barn by the side of the highway

When I pass farms on the side of major highways, I often think what a drag it would be to have all the cars on the highway whizzing by if it was my farm.

  1. I think the same thing when I see barns right next to the road around here. I'm not sure I would like that at all.

  2. Yes, we pass several farms on the Trans Canada Highway between here and Calgary, and the front yards seem to be right smack up against the road. I think the farms were there first, and the property expropriated when Highway 1 was being pushed through.

  3. I've often thought that about dainty cottages you drive past on busy roads - beautiful 'des reses' but the traffic would be unbearable.

  5. There's a neat old farm (great barn) not too far from my home. When I pass by on my bicycle I am going slow enough to appreciate the images.

I photographed the old barn many times last year.

  6. I like the soft focus...a result of drive by shooting?

  7. I feel sad when I think about the traffic so close, but the picture is lovely. I love old wood.

  8. I love this barn...and I notice it appears to have a sound barrier fence around it. The black and white processing for the shot is the perfect medium. Such a great on-the-move photo. You captured so much detail in the picture. Genie

  9. I'm always struck by these barns, the way pastoral life seems to coexist without much concern for the highway transportation system running right through it.

  12. Hi Carver

Love the story on this image. I also see homesteads that were built in what was once a wilderness countryside, now victim to progress.

Love the wires and no left turn sign!
