A couple of years ago when we were visiting Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, there were a lot of people under umbrellas during the reenactments.
The soldiers were toughing it without umbrellas but the spectators were under their umbrellas.
I found the next two shots in my photo archives too with a different kind of umbrella.
These umbrellas give people shade while eating.

Umbrellas can be so useful whether in the rain or blazing sun. Nice shots.
ReplyDeleteGreat captures of umbrellas.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how any of these reinactors can stand all those wool uniforms.. yuck...
ReplyDeleteI love my umbrella when walking in the rain. Or eating in the shade.
ReplyDeleteWool and rain, not a good combination. But it could have been worse - I would hate to get soaking wet in plate armour.
ReplyDeleteA useful thing an umbrella, out here on the "rain" coast we use them a lot for the first reason.
ReplyDeleteI love umbrellas too, I love to sit under one in the sun :)
ReplyDeleteLovely take on the letter U, Carver, enjoyed your shots.
U is for...
Wonderful photos and nice take on "U".
ReplyDeleteI love Williamsburg; went there 3 or 4 years ago.

Love the colorful umbrellas.
ReplyDeleteI also love Williamsburg. Its a fascinating place.
We have so little rain here in this semi desert that I never seem to be able to find an umbrella when I do need one....
ReplyDeleteNice umbrellas.
ReplyDeleteI love those umbrellas - I also love the bright yellow ones we have at Bridge's Restaurant down at Granville Island in Vancouver! Great take for our U week,

These are great shots. The reenactment must have been good fun. The hard-core reenactors around here would do just about anything to go on with the show.
ReplyDeleteYour umbrella shots are fun. Seems like forever ago when we could eat outside.
Love your “umbrella” post. It is a fun one and made excellent use of the letter U. Great job. genie
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos - love the brilliant colors and the scenery.
ReplyDeleteI love umbrellas and we rarely have the chance to use them here in sunny New Mexico!
ReplyDeleteCouldn’t resist dropping by after seeing the topic of your post, Carver. That is an interesting capture of the soldiers with only historical hats to keep their heads dry while most everyone else has an umbrella. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat captures and very nice entry for U day! I've chosen umbrellas like you;o)

Happy day****
I love those hUge umbrellas.
ReplyDeleteU is for..., please come and see. Thanks!
You have a nice collection of umbrellas. Like a lot of other Oregonians, when we're there we hardly ever bother with umbrellas -- we just dash in and out between showers.
ReplyDeleteNice umbrellas and nice pics.
ReplyDeleteLovely captures!
