I went on a pleasant December walk at the lake near my house.
Now that the deciduous trees have dropped their leaves, I'm reminded how many evergreens there are around the lake.
It's nice that the evergreens add some color to the winter browns.
I do like the way during this time of year the bare trees give views which would be shaded if the deciduous trees still had their leaves.
The one gray goose in the shot below looks like such an individual crowed in with the Canada Geese.
The gulls were circling the lake, perhaps looking for fish.
I wonder if this lake will freeze for part of the winter. For the past two years it has frozen over at least briefly during the coldest part of the winter but it doesn't do that every year.
There's something very appealing to me about wild areas with lots of seeds that get taken by the wind, even if they're only fairly small sections of city trails and parks.
The great blue herons are so patient when they are fishing. I wish I had the patience to watch them long enough to photograph them with a fish in their mouth.

I so agree, Carver, that so much hidden wonder is revealed after the leaves fall. The bare branches add lovely pencil lines to the landscapes from which to see the uncovered views. :)
ReplyDeletenice views for a walk. I wish too to have the patience to stop and watch the herons and their ways. all I ever see are ducks in the water.
ReplyDeletehave a lovely holiday.
What lovely blues! Such a gorgeous day for a walk.
ReplyDeleteLovely walk, I don't think I have ever seen a grey goode before, quite a looker too. Great photos, thanks for taking us along.
ReplyDeleteI think you have such a gorgeous place to walk so near your home. I love seeing what's happening there.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, a great day for a walk! And I, too, agree that autumn/winter has a beauty all its own and so much of it is revealed after the leaves fall! Your photos are superb as always and thank you for taking us on the walk with you!! Hope you have a wonderful week!

I loved this walk Carver -- I feel the same way about the herons (I wish they'd catch a fish on demand -- not really -- but I don't have the patience to wait them out either. The evergreen trees are nice and a lovely contrast -- and your water and reflections are so inviting. The one goose looks like he escaped from somewhere and joined the wild flock!
ReplyDeleteCarver, what a beautiful place for a walk. I love the geese and the heron. Great captures. Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteWonderful views of lake with neat reflections.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. I really liked ducks or geese, I'm not sure. Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteLovely peaceful captures.
ReplyDeleteI can only repeat myself when saying that you live in such a beautiful area!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the trees, it was beautiful how the falling leaves revealed hidden Beauties (and easier views on the birds) :)
And yes, patience to watch birds long enough,... I hear you :-)
Lovely spot - so much more can be seen now that the leaves are off the trees!
ReplyDeleteIt does give a different perspective on things doesn't it....
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the walk! And I especially enjoyed the bird shots.
