SkyWatch Friday: In between the grey

In between the days of grey, we have had some varied and beautiful skies.

I was glad to catch a lovely sunset one afternoon.

The clouds looked like they were painted in pastels.

A few days before the full moon we had a good night for sky watching.
skywatchmnDSCN3965
The actual full moon night was too overcast for skywatching but this night was close enough to a full moon for me.
skywatchmDSCN4015
Part of the time I was moon gazing it looked like the moon was being blown across the sky.
skywatchmbDSCN4046
I think the clouds were moving fast which made it look like the moon was moving.

The shots with the moon in the tree limbs were taken while I stood on a different side of my yard from the ones that are without obstructions.
skywatchfmcDSCN4051
It was a very varied moon gazing night because of the clouds.

On another day that started grey and dreary, there was such variety once the sun burst through.

I think the contrast between all grey during part of the day and blue and white later makes me snap a ton of shots when the sun comes out.
skywatchmmDSCN4214
There were only about 3 good days for sky gazing out of the past seven.
skywatchmmbDSCN4217
I do so love the cotton batting look of the clouds against the blue.
skywatchtmDSCN4218
It's like a bunch of different blankets and quilts are tossed into the air.
skywatchbDSCN4224
The variety over the space of an hour or so kept me clicking away.
skywatchbwDSCN4225
I had trouble picking which shots to use.
skywatchbDSCN4226
I seem to have had a lot of trouble lately narrowing down which photographs to use.
skywatcmDSCN4231
I think the next shot almost looks like a veil was covering the sky.
skywatlDSCN4232
I'll stop with one more shot.

  9. Gorgeous skies and clouds! The blue sky does indeed look silken and I love the feathery looking clouds! The moon has been gorgeous this month even here in gray, grumpy Seattle. I got a shot, but not as good as yours! Yours are awesome! Have a great weekend, Carver! Happy SWF!

  20. What a fabulous series. I, too, would have had trouble trying to decide which ones to post. Had never thought about the clouds resembling cotton batting, but being a quilter I caught on immediately. My favorite shots are the ones of the branches in front of the moon.genie

  30. Oh my gosh Carver -- your pictures are just a miracle. Pretty much each one of these would be a whole blogpost for me. You are so incredibly talented. I can almost see the moon moving. That one with the branch across it is wonderful.
