Due to computer issues I didn't participate in SkyWatch last week.
I thought this week I'd cover two weeks of sky watching.
Hard to believe that February is already half over.
I have been catching the full moon almost every month and February was no exception.
I think it looks like smoke was coming out of the moon in the shot below.
We've been getting a lot of dense cloud coverage.
It's hard for me to decide on which shots to post and covering two weeks this time has made it even harder to narrow down what I select.
One of my favorite parts of winter is how bare tree limbs make it possible to see more of the sky.
I like the layered look of the sunset.
The shots above and below are the same sunset at different times.
The jets crossing the sky leave their bands of white.
I'm glad I photographed the Japanese Magnolia (its called a tulip tree where I live) when it was showing off early blooms because they all got killed by the cold spell we had.
The next shot is the same tree after it was blasted with a return of winter.
My neighbor's cat was climbing down from my car and crossing the reflected sky.
The rest of the shots are ones I took at the JC Arboretum (NCSU).
I imagine the flowers on the tree below also got blasted by the cold spell so I'm glad I saw them when I did.
This has been a particularly good winter for varied skies.
We've had cotton batting style clouds.
I think it looks like a comforter is tossed across the sky.
I wish I could remember more about clouds. I never know which type they are beyond my made up fanciful designations.
The flower on top of the bathroom house at the arboretum moves with the wind.

You've had some amazing skies!
ReplyDeleteThat shot of the cat climbing off the car is spectacular!
Dear Carver,
ReplyDeleteGreat selection of images as always but I confess I'm in LOVE by your adorable "neighbor's cat", your picture is very artistic, awesome capture!
Léia ( and little Luna is sending purrs to the kitty)
oh you captured such lovely skies in the two weeks' time. your neighbor cat looks a bit peeved.
ReplyDeletedue to the balmy winter, the flowering trees in our neighborhood have all blossomed. our apple tree is all decked in blooms. early arrival of flowers but i welcome it.
have a lovely day.

You certainly have more blue skies in North Carolina than we do in Ontario! The full moon is often obscured by clouds here.
ReplyDeleteSo many great shots! Love the silhouettes of the trees - and the cat!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful selection of skies!
ReplyDeleteFun post and great images!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

ReplyDeleteWhat awesome skies you have had, Carver! Really breathtaking captures and, of course, I LOVE the cat! What fun! I think all of us have had some kind of computer issues lately!! A real pain in the whatever!! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Beautiful blue skies. I like that weather vane at the arboretum, very unusual.
ReplyDeleteAnother good thing about the bare trees, it makes it easy to see the birds.
So many varied skies to feast the eyes upon but for the sheer creative angle love the cat photo.
ReplyDeleteAs always you present beautiful photos. I must say that I liked best those of the moon and the neighbor's cat.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day
Greetings from Norway
Carver, a lovely series of sky photos. The moon looks beautiful and I love the cotton ball skies. Thanks for sharing, happy skywatching!
ReplyDeleteVery nice and I love the lead in image of the cat crossing the pool cover...really neat!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful skies, Carver.
ReplyDeleteSad about the tulip tree (that's what my grandmother used to call hers, too). I've been worried things will start coming up here and then get blasted by a cold spell, but so far nothing is brave enough.
The photo of the cat crossing the sky is wonderful. Beyond wonderful. It's a winner.

So beautiful and the cat shot is outstanding. Sweet kitty.
ReplyDeleteI missed the February full moon -- how could that happen -- thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWe call that a tulip tree in Oregon as well -- our daughter has a beautiful one -- I miss the Northwest's spring flowers too (but that's not my fault, like the moon was!)
I'm glad your computer is well.
Lindas imagens...e as suas explicações são perfeitas...acho que vou fazer um mosaico dessas fotos se você permitir...a do gato no capô do carro sob as reflexões de imagens é a melhor...mas amei tooooodas!!!
