Our World Tuesday: First week of May

The red-bellied woodpecker has become my alarm clock beating on the drain pipe like a drum.

The butterfly weed holds on to rain and creates jewels.

Before too long it will flower and the butterflies will be happy.

The American Robin struts through the grass with an eye out for insects.

The blue jay is all fluffed out in the bath.

The house finch shows off his ruby head.

Even the office buildings are green this time of the year.

  7. Thanks to everyone for visiting. To answer the question about the lens: I used the built in 36x f3.4-5.7 21.5-800mm lens (35mm equivalent)on my Nikon PS500 camera for the bird shots and the built in macro setting for the raindrops.

  11. I hate to be a wet blanket but I really don't think that woodpecker will be too successful in hammering out a nest in the drain pipe. A lovely collection of birds Carver.

    I hear birds chirping in the morning where I am which is probably less annoying than a woodpecker. only wish they were do it at a reason hour.

  17. You get some wonderful birds at your feeder, Carver. Here, I consider it a special gift when i see any sort of woodpecker, and even Blue Jays are rare sightings. Lovely photos!

  22. I love the bird pictures especially the ones having a bath. Thanks for sharing these. I was told that the reason that woodpeckers (males) hammer on metal objects to to make a lot of noise to attract a mate.

  24. These close up captures are so fine they could be used in a bird book. I am so impressed with this post. Loved seeing the different birds up close and personal. That blue jay looks fearless. When I was a little girl they used to get into attack mode with my mother would go out to hang out the clothes to dry. Impressive pictures this week. genie
