Our World Tuesday: Heading into Winter

This time of the year when the birds hear me walk outside, they are no longer hidden when they fly up into the trees.

In the summer I can hear them rustling the leaves but they are able to hide better.

I already posted a black and white version of the next frosty shot but I also like it in full color so I'm using it here.

The female cardinal was drying off from a bath on my deck.

My oak trees have just about dropped the last of their leaves.

I like the way the water was beading up on the male cardinal.

The blue jay was playing peek-a-boo.

The male cardinal turned his nose up at me.

Then he showed me his profile.

I love the way trees look in the winter when they have first dropped off their clothing.

The rufous-sided towhee was taking a bath in my front yard.

The tufted titmouse was waiting its turn for a bath in my front yard.

The sparrow beat the titmouse into the bath.

The red-wing blackbird looked around probably hoping I'd add some water to the bath which I did.

The bluejay on my deck looked beautiful.

  2. Your birdbath certainly is a haven for winged wildlife, Carver! No reason for that cardinal to turn its beak up at you after all you do for birds in the neighborhood. :)
