SkyWatch Friday: North Carolina Mountains mid October

I'm starting with sunset shots I took in Spruce Pine, NC on Tuesday evening.

The dots on the hill above are cows enjoying the sunset.

We had supper at the Mountain View Restaurant.

The view was wonderful and so was the food.

The sky was changing so fast that I took a bunch of shots before I went inside to eat.

Earlier in the day on Tuesday we enjoyed blue skies and lovely clouds.

I love mackerel skies.

Spruce Pine is in between Asheville to the south and Blowing Rock to the north of the NC mountains.

On different days we drove towards the south and then on another day towards the north.

The southern end of the NC mountains have just started changing colors but the northern end was close to peak color.

These shots are something of a jumble because I just got home (Raleigh in central NC) today.

Sunday afternoon when we arrived it was drizzling but stopped raining in time for a hike to the Elk River Falls.

Monday morning was raining but it stopped in the afternoon.

Monday afternoon we hiked to the Crabtree Meadows Falls.

Even on the overcast days it was pretty but I was glad that the sun came out for Tuesday and Wednesday.
