SkyWatch Friday: March ends and April begins

We have had a variety of sky watching opportunities in late March and early April.

We've had everything from sun to rain to tornado warnings.

skywatchDSCN9491

Fortunately the tornadoes didn't form.

skywatchDSCN9497

I didn't used to take tornadoes seriously because I thought they were so rare in central NC where I live.

skywatchDSCN9511

By that, I don't mean that I would be foolhardy but I never thought a tornado would be a concern where I live.

skywatchDSCN9533

However, over the past 20 years there have been tornado hits in Raleigh, NC where I live as well as places near by.

skywatchDSCN9534

I still think it's fairly remote that I'll be hit by a tornado but I pay more attention to the warnings.

skywatchDSCN9544

I seem to catch at least a couple of good sunsets a week.

skywatchDSCN9551

Ironically I almost missed the sunset tonight while preparing this post.

skywatchDSCN9808

That has happened to me before.

skywatchDSCN9810

I'll be writing about the sunset and realize that if I turn around I might catch one.

I have double windows in my den where my computer is but I face away from the window when I'm on my computer.

skywatchDSCN9872

Since I am usually able to work from home on my computer if I was facing the windows which have a view of my deck and sky, I'd be too distracted by the birds if my desk went the other way.

skywatchDSCN9884

I usually photograph the sunset from my bedroom window because it shows more of the sky without obstruction from my neighbor's house.

Starting with 3 shots above and continuing to the next to the last shot, I photographed the sky on April 1 when I had a meeting in Durham, NC.

skywatchDSCN9919

I always allow too much time to drive to Durham for meetings which means I have time for a photo shoot.

skywatchDSCN9928

I was very early but was almost late making it to the meeting because I became distracted by spring time ready for my camera.

skywatchDSCN9930

I was on time for the meeting but only by a few minutes.

skywatchDSCN9932

For me arriving two minutes ahead of time feels late since I'm usually sitting in the conference room for at least 5 minutes before anyone else arrives.

  12. so many great shots but that dogwood is beautiful, my favorite... so glad that the tornado didn't touch down and that you're more watchful of them... it's easy to get distracted taking pictures and lose track of time. glad you made it to your appointment. have a great day~

  14. Wow, so many great shots. We always have a number of tornadoes touch down around where I live, but they always seem to hit the rural areas outside of town - never in the city, luckily.
