Nature Notes and Our World: My green world with a monumental fungus


A wet summer has continued to keep the greenery looking more like spring than late summer.

It has also been very mild temperature wise.

Even the hot days aren't as extreme as most summers.

When I spotted the fungus above, I half expected a wood nymph to peer out of a layer.

The humidity is rather oppressive at times but overall this summer has been the most bearable of any summer I can remember in central North Carolina.

    I can easily imagine a wood nymph placing that fungus there. Lovely weather and imagery!

    Carver, these mushrooms are very tasty.
    In my country, however, are protected.

    Lucky you to have this green surrounding in the heart of summer. The fungi is impressive. I must say I haven't stumbled upon one that massive before. Have a great week.

    Very pretty nature scenes. The trees and fungus are pretty. We have had some cooler weather but today felt warmer.. Enjoy your new week ahead!

    The same here, the wet summer left the garden fresh and lush and the trees are still very green.

    We have also had a much more bearable summer. I like your comment about imagining a wood nymph appearing - makes nature even more fun!

    Carver what a lovely walk and that is quite a fungus...cool here and rainy so the flowers are lasting longer.

    I love the fungus.. Very wet here and the garden is still behind. I hope we get a nice fall so the rest of my flowers have time to bloom...Michelle

    We've had a wetter than usual summer here in Hong Kong too. Wonder if it's the El Nino effect?

    Our summer has been very mild, as well. Only over the last week has it truly felt like summer. Lovely photos :)

    CATCHING up (story of my life this summer). you had such a lovely summer. That mushroom (fungus, whatever) really caught my eye. I spent all yesterday taking one million pictures of different mushrooms on our walk through (what was supposed to be) a historical walk through a Klondike Gold Rush area.

    I was a little afraid Bill would jump in the car and leave me, because I kept getting way behind him).
