First Walk in October

Bill and I went on a walk on the Neuse River Greenway trail today.

The paved trail is 27.5 miles long and seems to be popular with cyclist.

I think of it as being outside of Raleigh, NC but it's part of the Capital Area Greenway System.

September was the hottest month of the summer which isn't unheard of but that hasn't happened in a long time.

I don't know if the red tree is a young pine that is ready to drop it's needles or not but I like the way it looks.

I can't really complain since June was quite cool and it didn't get very hot until July.

I don't think it has been a hotter summer than usual here.

It just started to get hot later and didn't get cooler until later.

Today was perfect for a walk.

Looking ahead at the weather I think it will be quite pleasant next week although there will be some storms.

There are starting to be signs of fall but plenty of wildflowers remain.

  1. Enjoyed the photos and those wildflowers are real pretty. Our grass usually goes brown in the hot summer months, but it didn't do that at all this year. We had enough rain to keep it greeen.

  2. I can believe that September in Indiana certainly was a scorcher. We had our annual Life Chain today- the weather was perfect, not rainy, not hot.

  3. Oh wow, I love how verdant everything is there. As you may have known September is the hottest month of the year in San Fran (and us too, just outside of the city) every year, so I'm surprised you had a hot month too.

I'm ready for all the cool weather and hot ciders.

    Have a great month.

  5. What a nice walk. I like how the tiny bits of color grasp the ground like confetti hidden within the grassy foliage.

  6. October certainly started out beautiful for you. I'm going to have to Google the Capital ARea Greenway System -- it must be one amazing trail! We've already had some rain here , which is what it is supposed to do here in the Fall/Winter, but hasn't much for a couple of years. It's churlish to complain, because it is so needed -- but I am not a fan of living with rainy days.
