The Weekend in Black and White: Ice trapped leaves

I can hear the birds discussing the weird lady that photographs the ice she knocks out of the bird bath before pouring in fresh water. Every now and then I will notice a particular bird looking at me with great impatience.

SkyWatch Friday: One Day of Sky Watching

December 27 had just about everything in terms of sky watching.

For the first half of the day it was a hard pouring down rain.

About mid day a cold front came roaring in and the sun came out.

The wind was blowing hard and a steady stream of clouds streaked across the sky.

Being someone who likes variety, I couldn't have asked for more from the sky show.

When the sun started setting there were so many variation as the wind continued to blow clouds across the sky.

I love the way clouds look with a lot of color variations.

It is as if someone was painting on the sky.

I hope everyone has a wonderful year ahead with lots of beautiful variations in the sky they view.

ABC Wednesday: X is for 10

X is the Roman Numeral 10 and can be seen on clocks.

On Roman Numeral Clocks you see X for ten and IX for nine.

You also see XI for eleven and XII for twelve. Granted none of the times on the clocks I'm showing you include X but since X is on the clock face 4 times I figured it would work for X day.

SkyWatch Friday: Looking back to December of 2010

This Christmas our forecast is for rain so I thought I'd post some shots from last year at Christmastime.

It started snowing at night on Christmas day last year and the all white sky are from December 26, 2010.

Then December 27 the sky was a brilliant blue.

It was fun to have a white post Christmas last year.

I hope everyone has a happy Christmas or a happy happy whatever they celebrate.

ABC Wednesday: W is for Wood

Cloud Chamber for the Trees and Sky in the NCMA Art Park has a wood ceiling.

It also has a wooden door.

There is a good selection of art made out of wood in the North Carolina Museum of Art.

One last sculpture which is in part made of wood.

Our World Tuesday: Another NCMA ramble

I have done many other posts about the NC Museum of Art but these are new shots I took on Saturday.

I'm not going to try and say much about the museum this time since I've discussed the museum and its expansion before.

A friend was visiting me this weekend and we went to the museum, and of course I took a few snaps, since I have this nervous habit called snapping pictures.

The first shot is of my friend looking at the Crossroads/Trickster when we were wandering around the Art Park.

The second shot was of a scene that pulled at my heartstrings. There was something about those two little girls sitting in front of that painting for the longest time that I found quite moving.

It was a black and white day and the singer serenaded me from the tree.

SkyWatch Friday: 24 hours with the moon

These shots were taken beginning a little after 6 pm on December 8 and ending around the same time on December 9, 2011.

At first the moon reminded me of a print or pattern of some kind.

Then it came out of the trees for full view.

It began to look more like the sun although the night was dark.

A short while later it looked like it was on fire.

I went to sleep that night and woke up around 5 am and started to go back to sleep but looked out my window in time to catch the setting moon.

It seemed like the witching hour except it was morning, not night.

I had to grab my camera and try to capture what I saw.

Once the moon had gone to sleep, I went back to sleep myself for another hour or so.

That night I spotted the rising moon and took a few shots. I think the one below looks a little bit like a large egg in a nest.

ABC Wednesday: V is for veranda(h)

Veranda has varied spellings since verdandah is another way that it's spelled.

The Moses Cone Manor has a veranda around part of it. As you can see in the front shot below part of the front has windows and is not a verandah, but on the other side of the entrance is a veranda and it wraps around the sides. I usually call verandas porches but a porch can be enclosed with a screen or glass and verandas are usually open with only a roof and railing. A veranda can also refer to the entrance so if the part below only had the small veranda in front of the door and didn't wrap around it could still be a veranda. According to that definition my front stoop could be a veranda but that would be silly since my stoop is a stoop not worthy of a fancy word like veranda.
