ABC Wednesday: B is for Ball

I wasn't too surprised to spot this baseball when I was walking.
abcwedballDSCN9166
The path I was taking went past a High School Baseball park.
abcwedballDSCN9281
However, I was surprised by the tennis ball in the baseball fence.
abcwedDSCN9172
The tennis court was on the other side of the school about 1/4 mile from the baseball fence.

ABC Wednesday: B is for bluejay and bluebird

Bluejays are a lovely combination of blue, white and black.
abcwedbluejayDSCN0031
Bluebirds are blue, reddish brown and white although you can't see much of the white underbelly in the shot below.

ABC Wednesday: B is for Brevard

Brevard, NC is a small town in the southern NC mountain range.
0000bforbrevDSCN7378
Brevard is close to Asheville which I used for A of this round.
0000bforbrevDSCN7507
The first two shots are in downtown Brevard and the last one was taken heading out of Brevard this fall.

ABC Wednesday: B is for Boat

Boy's bouncing board boat.
abcwedbbtDSCN3907
In the next shot, it looks like another board boater is walking on water because his boat is beneath the water. Beyond him is a fishing boat.
001abcwbDSCN4067
Below is a better look at one of the fishing boats on the water.
abcwedbDSCN3954
Big barge boat with little boat bearing to the right of it.
abcwedbbtDSCN3946
Below it almost looks like one boat but it's two.
001abcwedbDSCN4319
Next are the same two boats as the shot above but you can see it's two kayaks not one boat with two people. The boats looks like they are beneath the water.
001abcwedbDSCN4320
There are three boats below. Two sailboats, although the sails aren't raised, and one boat that looks like it's probably a small motor boat of some kind or perhaps a row boat.
001abcwedbsDSCN4330
Below is another kayak boat person.
001abcwedbkDSCN4013
Finally one last fishing boat close to shore.

ABC Wednesday: B is for Bunny

Big boisterous bunnies bound across my yard in the summer.

abcwedbunDSCN6045
Bunnies like weeds better than cultivated plants in my experience.
abcwedbunDSCN4556
Bashful bunny freezes when scary human points her black camera at him.
abcwedbunnyDSCN1881
It is funny how sometimes bunnies in my garden will almost seem to avoid the flowers.
abcbunIMG_4086
I was serious about them preferring weeds. Even when I grew carrots and lettuce, the bunnies would munch down on weeds and ignore the vegetables.

ABC Wednesday: B is for Beckley

I posted mostly hiking shots from my spring vacation in Beckley, West Virginia so for B day I thought I'd show you something of the town of Beckley.

001abcwedDSCN0657
Beckley reminds me a lot of small towns in North Carolina.
001abcwDSCN0659
The quality of these shots isn't great as they were taken from the car when it was overcast.
001abcwedDSCN0661
We actually lucked out with the weather. There were some pretty days, or parts of days, for hiking; and plenty to do when it was too rainy for a hike.
001abcwedDSCN0664
I find it interesting how small towns often have large old bank buildings that are grander than ones in larger cities where I live.
001abcwedDSCN0665
I think part of the reason for that is the old banks in some larger cities have been converted to other uses and the new banks are modern. In small towns they often seem to keep using their old banks as banks and don't spend money on new ones. At least that's how it seems to me in terms of towns and cities I'm familiar with.
001abcwedDSCN0666
One thing I've found in most of the mountain towns I've been in is that there is a lot more stone used in building than in some places. That makes sense because of all the stone that has been excavated out of the mountain when roads were put in.
001abcwedDSCN0667
There is something appealing to me about the house below.
001abcwedDSCN0668
I'm not sure if I was trying for a house in the next shot and missed it due to the movement of the car but I kind of like the old tree and stone wall.
001abcwedDSCN0670
I'm not positive if the last shot is Beckley or not because we missed the Inn we were staying at and had to turn around when we realized we were in another small town a few miles a way. I have a feeling the shot below is from that other town whose name escapes me so it could start with a B.

ABC Wednesday: B is for Barn

Last fall I shot these barns, and in some cases I shot them through blurry windows.

abcwwedbarnd7294
I love barns and when I'm on road trips I am on the lookout for barns to shoot.
1abcwedbarnc7133
The first two shots each have multiple barns in close proximity.
1abcwedbarnb7129
I love old barns with rusty tin roofs.

ABC Wednesday: B is for brevipedunculata

I have been meaning to give ABC Wednesday a whirl for years and I finally made it in almost on time. I will be starting a week late for Round 7 but I am able to combine A and B with the Ampelopsis brevipedunculata berries below. The common name is porcelain berry.
