ABC Wednesday: N is for Nest

The nuthatch needs a nest and claims this nifty nesting box nestled under my roof eaves.

In the spring newly hatched nuthatches are quite noisy and mom leaves to get nourishment.

At summer's end when the leaves fall off the vine, a nest from the past spring is revealed.

Another nest was built deep in the bushes which I avoid pruning until the babies were all grown up.

The next nest was built high up in the pine trees.

While new buds formed on the tulip tree an old nest sat exposed until spring leaves covered it again.

Neat nests...well some aren't actually that neat but fascinating all the same. I like how you used the theme.

Beautiful pictures of nesting birds. Mine is a similar poem on a nesting crow for the N week. Also a similar take on pigeons some time ago.

It's NICE that you postponed your pruning until the NEST was empty.

Good shots.

They must be fairly large birds from the look of those nests. You always show us such wonderful photos! Love them...have a great week. :D

Beautiful structures, I always wonder how they build them with two feet and a beak. The photo of the nuthatch clinging to the nesting box is my favourite :)

There is something magical in a bird nest. How cleverly they put it together using all kinds of different materials.

Great N post.

Home is where the heart is, and these little homes, miraculously built of found materials by two little feet and a beak, are testament to it.

The nuthatch's nest is a Neat idea. We have finches that block up up our gutters quite a few of them. I wonder if they could be persuaded t nest in an artificial box.
