I'm going to start with some of my first shots of September in honor of a new month beginning.
The female cardinal above poses showing me her profile. The male cardinal below fidgets looking ready to fly off if I don't snap fast.
Cardinals are the state bird of North Carolina, U.S. where I live.
The rest of the shots are ones I took in late August.
My yard is full of toadstools and mushrooms.
The ducks are on the pilings for now but once fall arrives these pilings are usually taken up by cormorants who stay until spring.
I'm looking forward to fall with the blaze of colors it brings.
There are subtle changes that make me know a new season is around the corner.
I wish the city wouldn't mow the grass on the dam this early, or at all for that matter. I like to see the tall seed heads on the grasses when they don't mow.
When I said I wished the city wouldn't mow, I of course mean that I wish they didn't have city employees mow.
For a minute I had a bizarre image of a city full of tall buildings sitting on a riding lawn mower.
There are wild parts of the trails that don't get any maintenance which makes it nice for the wildlife. There are also more maintained parts along paved paths around the lake that are mowed.
I like the wilder areas although I also like to check out the birds at the lake.
I like the reflections of the ducks on the piling.
The mallard was into some serious grooming below.
The shots were taken on different walks which is why there is a difference in the light.
A flock of geese took off so fast that the shot below is pretty blurry.

The grooming mallard is seriously cute, Carver, with its orange webbed feet. I can feel the transitioning of the weather in my world, too. I like the climate cooling down a bit and am looking forward to the changing colors. Lots of leaves have already fallen but only because of the dry weather. :)
i like the bird on the branch the best. great catch.
Beautiful photographs, I like such views, taking the small bench is fantastic. I am greeting
Great collection once again

Enjoy the greenery, birds ...
Fall is fast approaching, cold weather, cold ...
wonderful photos.

The cormorants are still here, Carver. The ducks are safe for a while longer. :))
What wonderful shots for the day, Carver! Somehow you can just feel the approach of fall! I love the mallard with his orange feet! Hope you have a great Labor Day and a great week ahead!
Those views look wonderful but I am looking forward to seeing them once the leaves start to change colour.
Hi Carver, love the shots of the lake, duck and geese. It is still hot and humid here. I would like some cooler weather for walking. Great shots, thanks for sharing.
Lots of awesome photography here of the delights of nature ~ beautiful! ~ (A Creative Harbor)
I love that wooden bridge trail that brings you right through nature.
Whenever I see neatly mowed lawns, I think of pesticides. Sigh.
Great pics of cardinals and of funghi, lots of that around now, but the ducks (and reflections) on the pilings are really my favorite today.
You have great captures to present. Love the mushrooms.
Such lovely shots of the birds!
Such a beautiful photo's, Carver!
I love the diversity of it...
Have a nice day and greetings,
Anna

Great series!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Carver...YOu have outdone yourself this week. What an awesome series! The birds, the landscapes, the water. All are so beautiful. My favorite has to be the empty bench. It as if it is sitting there waiting for summer to become a memory and for autumn to become a reality. All of your shots are fabulous. genie
