My "That's My World" posts are getting a tad repetetive since I seem to keep featuring walks. However, with changing weather even the same walks have some different material.
Last week Shelley Lake and parts of the creek that feed into it froze which gave me some different shots. After the lake froze all the way across, even when day time temperatures were staying around or below freezing, the sun started to thaw parts which made another change.
The photographs in this post will be a mixture of several walks last week and will go back and forth between days without any particular order. This week will be warmer during the day so I expect most of the ice will be thawed out soon.
One thing I noticed which doesn't come through in photographs is that it was actually colder in the exposed sunny places around the lake.
The reason for the exposed sunny spots being colder than the wooded trails is the wind was relentless for much of last week.
Because of the wind chill, the protected wooded areas didn't feel as cold to me as the sunny spots where there wasn't a buffer from the wind.
I've noticed how big of a factor the wind can be in the winter but I always expect it to feel warmer out in the sun.
I never fail to be surprised when I step out of the woods into the sun and it's even colder because of the fierce wind in my face. Mind you I'm not complaining. I walk in the winter by choice, the geese and other waterbirds don't get to go inside to central heating and hot chocolate like I do after a walk.

Your posts never seem repetitive to me, though now that I think of it ... I do much the same thing in my posts showing where I live so maybe I'm biased? I agree that as conditions change, the 'familiar views' shift in subtle yet fascinating ways. Your world is so different from my own and I appreciate you sharing you walks in this virtual manner. All your photos today are lovely yet the second stands out because it appears 'other-wordly' to me somehow ... almost as if looking from space. I'm sharing Colorful Miscellany from my world this week ... especially for all in wintry climates who long for Spring ;-)

The wind has been pretty brutal the last week or so hasn't it? Most unfriendly, to be sure. And if Shelley froze all the way across, I know it was abnormally cold. It felt warmer to me this morning, until I was driving up Wade Ave and saw ice in the gutters probably an inch or more thick. All I could think was this was running water and it froze like this? But I figure it built up over time and didn't freeze solid in a flash . Not so hard to build up ice once the first layer is frozen.

Looks more like spring to me than winter. LOL. No snow and the ice isn't very thick. :)
You've got some lovely shots of the ice. I especially like the reflections of the sky, and your last shot - so close to the birds. All that talk about going into the warm for hot chocolate has given me ideas - it's none too warm here in my office right now!

The pieces of ice floating in the water are indicative of the icy chill.

Claude Monet painted the same thing over & over, because he noticed how the light changed and made it look different. So you're not in bad company.

Too much snow yet here to take any proper walks or to see any of the birds but soon, I am sure. I am eager to see the Canadian Geese fly back here, I do miss them. You have some fine photos here of them. It really does look chilly over there regardless of snow or not... brrrr.

Lovely shots! I do the same thing with my walks, and it always amazes me that I can walk the same path day after day and find something different to photograph each time.

i've never walked to a frozen lake and no plans of doiung it anytime soon, must be careful most esp now that I'm about to pop =P
The reflective photograph is so beautiful. I never thought about it before but with all the freezing cold, the black feet of the Geese look just like boots.
