ABC Wednesday: E is for evergreen

Evergreens have leaves all year and can add color to winter scenery.

I think evergreens are particularly elegant and beautiful with a coating of snow.

The evergreens above were shot over a year ago at my house. The rest of the evergreens were shot this weekend at NCSU in the RC Raulston Arboretum.

The tall evergreens in the next shot fill the garden with color.

The evergreens below look energetic compared to dry winter leaves in front.

In parts of the garden there are so many evergreens that it's almost hard to tell what season it is.

The evergreens in the Japanese Garden at the arboretum make quite a statement.

Evergreens do lose some of their leaves but they don't lose them all at once like deciduous trees do.

They're all lovely pictures -- the first one, with the berries in the snow, would be perfect as a Christmas card.

Evergreens compliment our surroundings so beautifully all year round. We are fortunate to have an abundance of them in my part of the world in BC. I agree with Sallie about the first photo making a great Christmas card. :)

Evergreens are especially interesting in winter as they help fill in the landscape.

Thank goodness for evergreens....winter would seem much longer without them.

I'm glad we have so many evergreens here in NC. Your photos of them are lovely. Do you think we will see any snow this year?!? I'd love to have one good snowfall before spring but I'm starting to lose hope.

Living in a the country of a trillion evergreens (gums) I can tell you they do lose their leaves....all the time. It's a case of continually sweeping.

When I was teaching Grade 4, I taught the differences between evergreens and other types of trees. We have lots of evergreens here in the Vancouver area and when it does snow, they look stunning dusted with that cold white fluff. Lovely photos!

I agree with Sallie and my friend Penelope. The first photo would be a fabulous Christmas card.
Beautiful photos, however, all of them.

Those berries so crisp and clear they pop right out of the picture like 3d!

The snow on the greenery always adds a touch of elegance. Evergreens are pure grace, I think.

Thanks for your thoughts on Topsail. I have been down that way, and there are lovely spots. Navigating the private property is a bit of a pain, though. (Though the private patches here are nothing like Connecticut, where the entire shoreline is virtually private and the public parts are ridiculously expensive for parking. You'd think it was actually something more than a turbid oil slick rocking the debris of Long Island Sound to sleep. Yeesh. I hope here never becomes like there.)

Great photos! The evergreen are so nice to have in the wintertime. It seems like you always have blue skies. The red berries are especially pretty.

I see you did get some snow, I bet some of those early blooming flowers were surprised.

The very first photo stunned me. It's like Christmas again. Sooo beautiful really. The dried leaves look similar to a dead banana tree in the tropics. Evergreens would easily be my faves if we have them in my part of the world.

I love your generous posting of evergreen images! I almost posted evergreen too, but 'ran out of gas'! Exhaustion set in!

I love them, too, especially the ones with berries. It's so nice to see some colour in the dead of winter.

Trees are very theraputic - I always find - and I like evergreens such as fir and holly - I am looking through my window at my variegated holly as I write this comment - have a good week - Jane UK
