I took this shot of the rear entrance to the Mast General Store in Valle Crusis, NC a few years ago. The front is painted white but I like the unpainted rear. This is the original store which has been in operation since 1883. Now there are additional Mast General stores including one in Boone, NC; Asheville, NC and several other towns. There are 9 in all and each one is in a building dating from 1883 to 1945.

About Me
- Carver
- My original site, Carver's Sight or is that Site, was inspired by reading the blogs of people who I got to know through the Melanoma Patient's Information Page (MPIP). As time has gone on, I find myself talking as much about gardening, photography, and other random thoughts as I do about melanoma follow up. I am happy about that. I have set up an additional site, Carver Cards, which is primarily a photoblog.

Classic beauty.
Agree, I think the unpainted is probably much the better side. Funny how 'old' can be a relative term, this would be almost new in UK terms.
I love the fine lines in the photo and a classical house. Have a nice weekend.
I do not know why, but houses like this always gives me the creeps. The windows looks like evil eyes looking down on med. Too many scary movies maybe ;-)
Love the photo though.
Lovely shot of the old beatyful house..;-D
I really love buildings like this. Well captured and documented!
Nice B&W, looks somewhat like a movie scenery...
God bless you!
Cezar
Great shot of this old building, and perfect in b&w. I love the wood texture and the lines in the photo!
Have a nice weekend:)
Ruby's put it just right - classic beauty. Much more attractive unpainted, and a lovely shot.
I like the old unpainted look.
Great lines and lovely wood texture makes this photo so good!
Happy Weekend in B&W!
Very wood feeling of the image. Nice cottage in B&W.
Neat building, I bet the inside is even better :-)
I have been to the one in Asheville many times. IO lived there for 18 years. Am so glad you showed the back of the building. I, too, like seeing the natural old wood. genie
Beautiful lines, wonderful detail, and a great subject.
Wow! very old, yet so good. Great picture.
great black and white shot, lovely old building :)
I'm always amazed when wood buildings stand the test of time. Looks good in monochrome.
Is that ever perfect in b&W! I just love that there is a chain of general stores in old buildings! Wonderful thing to know.
a striking image in monochrome!
wonderful shot for black and white with so much texture...cheers.
I wonder if it safe to enter that stair. It is a wonderful photo
