The children in the next shot were hollering at their parents to slow down but the parents were cycling ahead and ignoring them.
The dirt on the growth along the edge of the lake in the next shot was the first sign of how much flooding there was from a major rain storm a week ago.
I took a lot of dappled light shots.
I light to catch shadows on the pathways.
The cormorants are back on the pilings. I usually only see them at this lake in central NC from early September until spring when they disappear.
On the opposite side of the lake and creek from where we started walking it was obvious that the flooding had been major.
This side always has the worse flooding.
I can remember walking after storms when the standing water on the paths were too deep to walk through.
It looked like when the banks overflowed a large amount of mud ended up on the paths. I think the city parks and recreation workers used machines to push the mud to each side of the path. This time of the year there are usually flowers there but I think they ended up being covered in mud.

I love the dappled shade, Carver, but can't say I like the evidence of flooding. Next spring might be glorious, however.

Thanks to everyone for visiting. To answer the question about how far this is from my house: The lake is less than a mile from my house and there is a trail less that 1/2 mile from my house that leads to it.
My world, too, has seen a return to the warmer weather ... and just when we thought it was all over for summer. Your forest path and mine look so similar with the lacey patterns.
Nice shady paths. A journey should be smooth.
