Monochrome Weekend: Highway near Bedford, Virginia

I've been looking through my archives lately for photographs I didn't use yet but like. I took this shot on a trip to the Virginia mountains a few years ago. The monochrome version is my photograph for Monochrome weekend.

I think I like it better in monochrome than in color except in monochrome the highway worker doesn't stand out as well as he does in full color. In the color version below, if you look at the far left on the barn, you should be able to make out a red shirt of someone working on the barn. I'm including the color version below for comparison.

Dear Carver, thanks for the two views, adorable indeed but I think I prefer monochrome, fantastic! :)
Happy weekend

I guess each has its own beauty...but the monochrome is more dramatic...

Beautiful contrast, Carver!

Have a great weekend :)

Seeing them side by side, I see what you're talking about. I"d probably have missed the guy on the roof. But for a' that, I still prefer B&W for views like this. That's just me. ;-)

A great shot--I think I like the monochrome version a bit better.

The two photos feel completely different. I like the contrasts in the colour version, and the way the shape of the barn roof stands out in the monochrome.

The monochrome shot is best but I disagree about the worker. I think he stands out better in the mono version. The eye is naturally drawn to highlights in an image and he stands out without the distraction of color.

I love both versions, and honestly I don't know which one is better.
Love the shading in mono, and the bright colors in the other.

Kisses from Nydia.

It's interesting to compare; I too prefer the mono, but I certainly missed the little red man!

I prefer the mono; the sky is very dramatic

What a beautiful photo. I enjoyed being able to compare both views.

I like both, but I'm really drawn to the shadows of the black and white.

I think the monochrome is far better as the coloured picture seems like any other!

Except for the hardhat and the lack of a golf course, sure looks like a guy dragging a bag of clubs.

I am with you...
the one in monochrome is really beautiful and communicative...
but if you want to show the man in red helmet walking across the green field under the wide blue sky... you have no option other than the color one :)
