Ice storms can be very beautiful although it's irritating when they damage trees and power lines.
The inferior quality of the first two photographs in this post can be blamed on my first cheap digital camera.
Any inferiority in the rest of the photographs has to be blamed on the photographer since they were taken after I got a better digital camera.
In the winter I try to provide the birds with fresh water. I end up with ice blocks on my deck from the frozen water I empty out.
The birds let me know when they are ready for more water because their bird baths are iced over. Sometimes the ice forms in interesting ways.
I don't think I'd ever seen an upright icicle until I spotted this one last winter.
The creek which feeds into Shelley Lake had ice in early January.
The lake also had ice over most of it although much of it was thin ice so not suitable for ice skating.
The neighborhood children did get to go sledding last winter when ice formed on top of the snow.

Hey girl, I think your camera is fabulous, you don't need a better one! ;) Your pictures are wonderful, very nice IDEA about I theme!
Hugs and Congratulations!
Léia
I's rather nice to see the icy cool on a day which is supposed to be in the 90's!
Lovely as it is dangerous ...
Love the iced trees. The upright icicle is interesting, did something drip into the bird bath to form it?
What a great post for i, Carver! I am looking forward to the next icy season...!!

Ah—ice. Wonderful depictions, but can we hold it off for several months.

Gorgeous photos, Carver. Ice can be fascinating, and winter photos have a special beauty. I've seen upright icicles before but have never given much thought to their formation. Now I'm curious.

Your photos are always terrific, Carver! And these are great preparation for the oncoming winter season as well as for the I Day! Hope you have a great day! Enjoy!

Lovely ice designs in the bird baths. I have never seen an upright icicle either. Good post.
I think you should blame neither the cameras nor the photographer. My favourite was that vertical icicle. It must be unique.
And it all reminded me of what we have in store...
'Ice' is an excellent I-word!! I chose ice myself last winter. Interesting photos too.
Best wishes,
Anna

Love especially the first photo of the icey tree.

OH NO! I think this is a INKLING of what is coming!
very daring one!
I liked your Ice pictures with the less expensive camera as well as the new one. My pictures are all taken from an inexpensive digital camera. Someday, I may invest in a better one, but for now the less expensive one will have to do.
Some very beautiful images you have there. It won't be long before the snow flies here in Canada :-(
Ice is incredibly fascinating when it's good. An ice storm crashed through here a decade ago and felled trees and power lines by the dozens. It was beautiful, but... :) I thought all your photos were wonderful -
Personally, I don't think you need to apologize for the quality of your photos - they are icily beautiful! Those icy birdbaths are going to be here before we know it - great post!
interesting ice art.
there was a nasty ice storm in far upstate NY in 1998, which did a lot of damage.

I live in rural western Massachusetts, so this is all very familiar!
Nice shots!

I love those icy pictures! so pretty!
Well, I, for one, will not criticize any of your photos 'cuz I think they're just great. Wonderful take on ice today. Sad to think we may be seeing it again all too soon, though. :D
We even got inch thick ice here in Ca last winter, pretty cool for us :)
That upright icicle is interesting must have been a slow drip, dropping and freezing.
I really can't emphatize the feeling since I've lived my whole life in the tropics.. our ice is just in the refrigerators...
Love all these wonderful winter scenes, - your photography beautiful, regardless of what camera you are using.
...and that beautiful winter weather will be baaaaack! Great photos...I love the lone leaf in the saucer!
Hmm it's like two sides of the same coin or.. call it beauty and the beast together...
Pixellicious Photos
I'm shivering just looking at those photos! Can somebody say "wood stove?"
Great work. Really very nice. congratulations...
great shots
congrats

So brilliantly presented shots... each was exciting for me as I don't get to see snow here in my part of the world.
