The first kite I will show you is flying at the beach high in the air. This is the kind of kite which is released by letting out string which is wrapped on a hand held handle.
When I was on vacation at Atlantic Beach, NC the kite above is the only one of its kind I saw. However, I saw quite a few different kitesurfers along the beach.
Although kitesurfing has been around for a while, the first time I noticed them in NC at this beach was three or maybe four years ago.
I was surprised by how many kitesurfers I saw at the NC beach this year.

I never was any good with kites, so I get envious now. And all those colours just waiting for a camera!

Love your kite shots, Carver, and what a great choice for the K Day! We do see lots of kite surfers here in Seattle and they are fun to watch! Hope your week is going well!

lovely photographs! :) very well caught!
Mine Is Here
I wouldn't have thought of kite-surfing, but I love the photo of the hand-held kite. Makes me feel like a kid again.

Wonderful free flying kites. The beach is the perfect place for flying kites. Did you read "The Kite Runner"?
Thanks to everyone for visiting and to answer about the Kite runner, I have read that book. Very sad book but well written.
Wow!! That looks like a lot of fun. :)
Wouldn't venture to do kite surfing but I have done the other kind of kite flying (with a string).
I really enjoyed your kite photos - very inspiring - it proves that we're never too old to play.
LOVE the photos, especially the water and the beach! Great choice for today! Have a great week! :D
My Kids and I use to fly Kites, but haven't flown one in many years. And since I can't swim I think I will pass on SurfKiting. But, I must admit it sure looks like fun.
Oh, dear. That 1st kite initially looked like a mismatched bra.
But good captures.

Exactly why the Wright Brothers chose Kitty Hawk to fly a plane! =)
Very neat! I must remember to grab my camera the next time I see a kite. :)
Love watching the kite surfers. I think they have to be very strong to stay up in those strong wonds.
Love the kite photos!
Well captured energy! Quite fond of kites and watching kitesurfers!
I have not heard of kite surfing before. It looks like fun!
Looks exciting and fun. And your photos are gorgeous.

Wow...what coordinating you would need to be able to do that..I would become wrapped in the strings and end up under water...for sure... Michelle
O no, I can't do that.. i'm afraiday girl...hahaha.. but this might be fun...

Great photos, - have always loved kites and regret getting too old to run with them, - would have to sit these days and let them find the wind themselves.
I often spend my lunch time watching them kite surf. i wonder why they have time to do it. i guess they also wonder why I have time to watch them. The fact is my school is 5 minutes from the beach.
Lovely captures.
Whoa these are huge kites! Nicely shot pics, I could feel the breeze!!
Kitesurfing looks marvelous!
Thanks for the visit to the shores of NC,

like that second one especially. kitesurfing is great to watch!
What lovely shots of kiting at the beach... beautiful.. Makes me want to go out and buy a kite.
All these kite photos bring to mind our trips to Virginia Beach. The scenery is similar and there always seem to be kite fliers this time of the year especially. Always fun to watch and these are delightful photos.
An English Girl Rambles
Great photos. Can almost smell the sand and the sea.
