Our World Tuesday: Construction and such

I am able to work from my home computer most of the time but last week I went to the Durham, NC office of the company I work for.

ourworldDSCN4283
On the way there I got a quick shot of the church above and on the way home, I got a back shot of the same church since one way streets give different views there and back.

I was shocked after I got to the office to see a new building going up near by.
ourworldgDSCN4322
The reason I was shocked was because I thought that area was part of the city park and wouldn't be built on.

It's a shame because the seats in a garden that's part of the park used to look on a tree line and grassy hill and now they have a view of the construction site.

Nothing blooming in the garden but still nice to have an area that isn't going to be developed. Actually the park is still large with most of it across the street from where the shot above is facing but it was a jolt to realize yet another building was going up on what I thought was part of the park.

I like the house above and the one below, although the one below is in pretty bad shape. The next three shots are of that same delapadated house from different views.
ourworldgDSCN4293
I love bare limbs of winter.
ourworldgDSCN4299
The tree on the right below has looked like it was split in half for at least a year, maybe more, but the part that's bending down has leaves in the summer.
ourworldgDSCN4305
I was shooting these trees when I was waiting to cross the street from the office building to the parking lot.
ourworldtDSCN4306
I shot the green house below while waiting at a red light on the way back to the highway. That house has been being remodeled for well over a year but appears to be finished.

I like the way there are more pedestrian bridges crossing highways like the one below in Durham, NC, and we also have several in Raleigh, NC where I live.

Oh too bad about the building -- it still looks like a very nice area to have the office tho. I love the pedestrian bridge; wish there were more of them in our part of the world.
Carver, I really admire you for doing such great blogs and still while you are working. I don't think I could have done that.

The tree branches are as pretty as pencil drawings, Carver! I like them, too. Also like the older homes, streets and church that are loaded with charm unlike many of the newer buildings. I was especially charmed by the design of the brown benches fitting so perfectly in the natural setting.

Nice pics of the church & charming houses. The barren trees look magnificent.

Charming scenes except for that construction site. Bare branches against blue skies - perfect.

Wonderful shots from our trip. Those bare branch trees give a great look to the surroundings.

Great captures, Carver, and what a pity to have still another building going up in what was such a lovely park area! Love the tree branches against the sky! A great, interesting post as always! Hope you have a great week!

Hi Carver, what a shame to see a new building going up so close to the park. I think the cities need more green spaces. Great post and photos. Have a wonderful day.

The weather looks mild where you are. Some nice photos of the church and park grounds. Too bad about the new building going up but I guess they have to go somewhere. It's just had to have wonderful views obstructed; that is for sure.

Oh no...I wonder how they were able to build there...sigh

Great shots of this part of your world. It is a pity that the new building is going up so close to the park -what were the local council thinking when they approved it (hmmm, probably rates, money, extra funds...).

I think it is a shame to build on the property. It is all so beautiful. Your photos of the bare trees are wonderful. There is something about tree limbs without any leaves that draw in in and make me want to photograph them. Looks like you enjoy doing that too. The footbridge is so very nice. genie

I'd be shocked to see construction on land I considered part of a park, too, Carver. Horrified, in fact.
It looks like a lovely area otherwise, except for that one nice old house that's not being cared for. Perhaps the owners aren't well and can't keep it up.

Lovely collection of photos and insight in your area!
Bummer about the run down house, such a Beauty!
And that new construction sucks.
Didn't we just talk about crap like that a while back?

Too bad about the park being built on.

That church shot is lovely, as are all your shots. Your blue skies are luscious!

Sad that the parks are lost, development has its own cost. Great captures from your world.

It is always disturbing to see public land eroded. Here so often land that is left to the people in perpetuity for recreation by some benefactor so often after a few decades gets sold by the council. I am sure the benefactor is spinning in his grave.
The green belt around the city square of Adelaide has been badly eroded on one side by public buildings such as a hospital, museum, library, art gallery, university, governor's residence, parliament and railway station that has now been converted to a casino.
