ABC Wednesday: R is for railroad

Railroad tracks run alongside the river in the West Virginia mountains.

The first shot is after I zoomed in on the train Bill spotted on the railroad tracks while the second shot shows the tracks on both sides of the river, or rather you may be able to make out the slight indent in the tree line which is the tracks.

The next shot shows railroad track on a bridge going over a river in West Virginia.

Running right through a relatively new water garden are old railroad tracks in Durham, NC.

I'll end with one last railroad shot of the same train as the one above.

Absolutely beautiful, Carver! Railroads are so romantic! I will be taking some time off, that's why my post is R is for rest and relax!

The last in your series looks to have old-world charm that is often missing in current trains. Most trains nowadays are boxcars stringed together to transport tons of freight across country. Nevertheless they wind their way through some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable. The call of the train whistle never fails to evoke a sense of adventure in me. :)

Gorgeous photos! It's time we paid another visit to West Virginia. I remember going there a few years back and riding along a road with forested hills on one side, and a railroad track next to the river. Wonderful memory of a very beautiful drive.

Did you know that May 12th is National Train Day? Your post is oh so timely! I should've thought to have used railroad since it was so close to National Train Day-you are nothing but smart!

I really like this collection. I recognize the ones in Durham! That water garden downtown is very cool and I'm glad they left the old RR tracks there.

I love all your shots of the trains and railroad stations.
Great picture of the river and the tracks running along side.
Sometimes doves seem a bit stupid. I hope they do get out of the way when a train comes along.

A number of my uncles retired from the railroad and so it was talked about alot in my family. My grandma lived 600 feet from RR tracks and we would go to sleep when we stayed with her hearing the CLICKITY CLACK.

The first six shots are very similar with some railroad scenes in a province in Thailand. I love the rural feel of your pictures.

I wonder if the conductor ever waved at you. I think it was a waving conductor and the red caboose that inspired my enjoyment of trains. Then the choir I sang in at university travelled from Montreal to Toronto for a festival. That trip was sure fun. Your train-themed post and wonderful photos brought some happy memories back.

My earliest memories of trains are of trains in the city for we children who had nothing better to do but watch them come and go. Dusty, dirty, noisy. It's strange for me to see such rural train tracks.

This was such a fun post, Carver. Silly mourning doves, though I suspect they can feel the coming of a train when it's still way off in the distance. :))

Carver, these are wonderful photos of my favorite subject. My great-grandpa was a railroad conductor in the days of the formal suit and pocketwatch on a long gold chain. The rusty bridge really caught my eye. Thanks so much! Amy
