I haven't fished since I was a child but I photographed human and bird fishing at Shelley Lake which is near my house in the triangle area of North Carolina (U.S.).
There are largemouth bass, catfish, sunfish, bream, crappie and carp in the lake according to the city website.
I enjoy watching birds fish and occasionally see them with a fish in their mouth but I've never caught a shot like that.

These are great. That gent on the dock looks like he is in heaven itself.
We watched a bird fish when we were in NC last week--we watched many, actually, and saw one succeed. That was amazing. Your photos are wonderful.
a lovely lake...and your capture of the gull was fab. it isn't easy to capture them...i tried my hand at that in italy and did get a couple of decent shots...but took many trys.
have a great afternoon.
I agree with Sandy, the gentleman on the dock does indeed look like he is in heaven!! Such fabulous shots, Carver! Thank you and have a great week!
Hello Dear friend!
Wonderful world yours! Great post!
Fantastic pictures!
Kind Regards
Léia :-)
If you don't mind I would like to write some words from a Portuguese Poet "Fernando Pessoa"that I love so much:
"...Spend more time doing that dreaming,
making that planning,
living that waiting
Because, although who is almost dead be alive,
who now lives almost died. "
(Fernando Pessoa)
Pretty lake, so peaceful.
I too would rather take photos and watch other people fish than to actually do the fishing myself :D
A nice meditative place to get in some quiet fishing. You don't necessarily have to catch anything.
Beautiful photos Carver, the last one is definately my favourite, so peaceful.
Have a great week!

Action and tranquility within the space of a series of images. Fabulous wingspan and the last one just makes me breathe deeply and relax.
Great shots, a lovely place to visit.
Amazingly beautiful shots! Well done. The one of the bird in flight is spectacular!
As always, your work is ever so compelling, Carver.
Wouldn't mind sitting on the dock with my toes in the water. Wouldn't need the fishing pole to justify it either! Great photos.
Nebraska Birding
That last shot is very Idyllic,
I just love the first photo, perfect. I don't fish myself but I love being out on the water. Thanks for sharing your world with us.
Wow! Really envy the birdie which can fly freely...
I am quite sure that a friend of mine will find this place such a bliss as it is so beautiful. I don't like fishing much though but i just love watching birds fish:) such grace and beauty!
That bird shot is terrific!
I can sense your joy and satisfaction of taking that shot!
What a beautiful, tranquil spot! I love the first photo where the person is framed by the foliage.
I love fishing. But with the kids and the house i don't have the time to go fishing any more. But living on an island i'll have my opportunities some day. Love your photos.
Great and peaceful photos! Lovely thanks for sharing! Thanks for your visit and have a great week!
lovely place, looks so peaceful..
beautiful post.
Great shots, I love the first one!
so peaceful! I can hear the silence
Oh this looks like a wonderful, peaceful and tranquil fishing hole.
Carver: Fun post, great photos and it looks like a great place to wet a line.
That looks like a great place to spend a lazy afternoon fishing. Hope that gentleman in your picture caught a lot of good fish.
Looks like a great place to fish, photograph wildlife, or just sit and relax.
Very nice, indeed. Water is always beautiful.
Ah, these feel expansive and so very soothing. I enjoyed putting myself in that place. Thank you for allowing me that for a time.
I came over from David's.
Fabulous pictures. The bird is incredible, you have captured it perfectly.
CJ xx
These are amazing photos!!! The bird is phenomenal! Congrats on POTD! Well-deserved!!!!
Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures. We have beautiful lakes near our home in MN also. So relaxing.
Beautiful post! Congrats on the Post of the Day Award from Authorblog!
I love docks on lakes, and your pics.
This is so weird. If you'd taken this shot about 15 years ago, that could've been me. I used to go down there (in just about that very spot on that very dock) now and then and get a line wet. Never saw anything but some crappie and bluegill though. If there are bass in that lake, they're well hidden.
Nice catch on the gull. They're tough to catch in flight like that.
Now that I think of it, I've posted shots of that boat rental shack too.
congrats on POTD...love the pics...
Congrats on Post of the Day nod from David. I don't know which I'd rather be, the gull or the fisherman.
