That's My World Tuesday: Photo-shooting from the highway and parking lot

Last week I went to Durham, NC (U.S.) for a staff meeting and was surprised to see a new pedestrian bridge across Highway 147 at Alston Avenue.
Photobucket
When I headed home, I was ready to try for a few more shots of the bridge approaching it from the other direction.
Photobucket
Since the pedestrian bridge isn't opened yet, if you look at the shot above the people walking across the road bridge on the left hand side are sharing that with cars. When the pedestrian bridge which you can see on the other side of the road bridge is finished, that will be a better way to cross the highway.
Photobucket
The shot below is one I took after the staff meeting, when I went into the park which is below the parking lot.
Photobucket
The next shot is taken from the parking lot facing the building I had left after the meeting.
Photobucket
The next shot is also taken from the parking lot but I turned my camera a little towards the left.
Photobucket
The last shot taken from the parking lot is facing in a whole other direction to get the expansive sky into the shot.

That's My World Tuesday: Lake Lynn

Lake Lynn is a few miles from my house and Bill and I went for a walk there on Saturday. All the photos in this post are from that walk.
Photobucket
Since Shelley Lake is in my neighborhood and some of the trails are within walking distance of my house, that's where I usually walk.
Photobucket
I like to go to Lake Lynn too since there are some differences between the two lakes and Lake Lynn is only a few miles away.
Photobucket
In the spring I usually spot a lot more turtles at Lake Lynn and on Saturday that was definitely the case.
Photobucket
The turtles were out in full force and I wondered if they have already begun to have babies.
Photobucket
I'm not sure what kind of turtles they are as that's not something I'm good at identifying.
Photobucket
Immediately after reading a sign that said horses aren't allowed on the walkways around the lake, I spotted two horse riders.
Photobucket
When I realized they were police officers I wondered how they would react if I said, I'm making a citizens arrest, you aren't supposed to be riding horses on this trail.
Photobucket
There are some early signs of spring at the lake but not as many as there are in the neighborhoods.
Photobucket
I like this time of year when part of my world looks like winter and part looks like spring.
Photobucket
When we were almost around the lake, I glanced over at a condominium complex which was bursting into spring mode.
Photobucket
There are some of the same geese and ducks at Lake Lynn as there are at Shelley, but not anything like as many at Lake Lynn. Lake Lynn has muscovy ducks (second shot) which I never see at Shelley but in terms of numbers of water birds there aren't as many.
Photobucket
There weren't any sea gulls at Lake Lynn although there are a lot of them at Shelley Lake at the moment. Most of the sea gulls leave before summer at Shelley.
Photobucket
I haven't seen any of the great blue herons at either lake recently although I see quite a few from around April through January at both lakes. For participants from around the world, please visit the home of That's My World Tuesday.

That's My World Tuesday: Another spring post

Spring continues to be the big news around my part of the world with daily changes.
Photobucket
It's been a wet March, so far, but there have been a few days where I could walk at the lake near my house (Shelley Lake).
Photobucket
I always enjoy seeing and hearing the changes of each new season.
Photobucket
The animals get rowdier as they move into mating season and call out to warn some away from their nests or to attract mates.
Photobucket
The Canada Geese are at Shelley Lake year round but they are more abundant at different sides of the lake depending on the season, and spend more time in the water as it warms.
Photobucket
They are also much nosier in the spring time and I can hear them before I see them.
Photobucket
Back at my house the American Robin are out and about much more.
Photobucket
The robin are a sure fire sign of spring as they begin to forage and nest, as well as take a bath on my deck.
Photobucket
The male cardinals keep up a steady call for mates from the trees. They also warn off intruders from their nests, or that's what it seems like. The female cardinals will head for the bushes where they have nests, when they see me, but the males will be in the tree above the bushes and shout at me.
Photobucket
The cardinals also enjoy a bath on my deck and this one would look over to where I was shooting from my french door, and then turn his back on me.
Photobucket
The flowers are starting to pop up and bloom adding color and scent to my world.
Photobucket
The tulip tree buds are beginning to get fuller and show a hint of the pink color they will have when they bloom.
Photobucket
From some places at my house it is a mass of buds and color when I look up.
Photobucket
Other places there is a hint of growth on the trees but many of the trees are still bare.
Photobucket
