I shot this through the window at the beach cottage where my family gathered recently. My daughter, sister and brother in law are the barely visible figures heading off for a walk.

ABC Wednesday: B is for brevipedunculata
I have been meaning to give ABC Wednesday a whirl for years and I finally made it in almost on time. I will be starting a week late for Round 7 but I am able to combine A and B with the Ampelopsis brevipedunculata berries below. The common name is porcelain berry.

That's My World Tuesday: Road Trip to the NC coast
I always enjoy taking photographs on road trips when someone else is doing the driving.
On the way to the beach I spotted acres of sunflowers and I got the shot above from across the highway.
On the way home I was looking out for the sunflower farm and managed to get a few shots but they are a blur since the driver didn't slow down, not that I asked him to because I didn't.
There are always plenty of corn fields to photograph at various stages.
I wonder what it's like for the people who live on their farms which are on the side of a busy highway. It's so rural in some ways but there is a lot of highway traffic.
The last shot is the train track which runs through the middle of one of the main roads in Morehead City, NC. I've noticed that a lot in eastern NC. There will be train tracks in the middle of the main town road with the tracks laid between the opposing lanes of traffic. A little tidbit I learned about from the NCRR History site is that in 1926 residents in Goldsboro, NC who were unhappy with the location of the RR tracks on Centre street removed them in the middle of the night and they weren't replaced. I have this vision of angry town people with their sledge hammers, crowbars, and whatever tools it takes to lift off the tracks. I wouldn't have a clue how to do it even if I was angry about where the tracks were put.

SkyWatch Friday: Here comes the storm
I usually try and pick one shot for skywatch but this week I thought I'd show the storm moving in over the Atlantic Ocean on the NC coast, Saturday night.
Shot One - Taken at 18:06:27
The first thing I noticed was how excited the birds were getting.
Shot Two - Taken at 18:07:08
Then the clouds started pushing all the blue out of the way.
Shot Three - Taken at 18:11:51
Next I spotted this pig, bear, or maybe a dog in the sky.
Shot Four - Taken at 18:14: 27
The black sky started pushing in from the sound side towards the ocean.
Shot Five - Taken at 18:27:45
It was beginning to rain so I got under the porch roof so my camera wouldn't get wet.
Shot Six - Taken at 18:33:23
The last shot was taken when the rain was so hard it was blowing towards the porch and I had to be quick because I was getting wet. I don't mind getting wet myself but I don't want my camera to get wet.
Shot Seven: Taken at 18:33:36

That's My World Tuesday: Atlantic Beach NC
Since I didn't get home until late afternoon yesterday I haven't had a chance to go through my photographs so this is a quick smattering.
We had some great skies while we were there with a lot of variation in the lighting.
I had to laugh at the seagull above because I felt like it had the same reaction to how choppy the water was to mine. Proceed with caution.
There were a lot of kite surfers taking advantage of the wind to be out on the water. A few times the ones below got so close to each other I wondered if their kites would tangle.
The forecast the whole time we were there was for afternoon thunderstorms but we only had rain the last night we were there. Most of the time it was beautiful and windy.

Brief Blog Break
I'm taking the week off from blogging but I thought I'd post one non theme related shot. I like the word theme better than meme. Every time I see meme I think of me me me. Ironic since my theme posts are only about me in that they are what I choose to photograph. I'm curious how meme became the word to describe photo blog themes.
I hope everyone has a great week. See you next week.

That's My World Tuesday: U.S. Independence Day
Sunday, July 4, was the United States Independence day and July 5, 2010, Monday is a holiday in the U.S. since July 4 fell on Sunday this year.
I have posted about Colonial Williamsburg, VA for My World before but I had a bunch of shots from that trip which I haven't used. The shot above is of a quilt in the Folk Art Museum in Colonial Williamsburg.
I thought it was appropriate to post photos from Colonial Williamsburg today (although they are autumn shots) because they recreate events leading up to the revolutionary war as well as some scenes after it began.
The balcony scene and the shot below are of the Colonial Capitol building.
The next shot is in front of the Capitol building where people gather and the actors play out scenes from the beginning of the Revolutionary War which took place between Thirteen former British colonies on the Atlantic Coast of North America and the Kingdom of Great Britain.
Most of the scenes played out in Colonial Williamsburg relate specifically to the colony of Virginia. The next two shots are of the colonial Governor's Mansion.
The shot above is the part of the mansion overlooking the Palace Green and the shot below is of the gates on the other side of the mansion leading through the drive and garden.
The next shot is of one of the smaller houses on the Palace Green.
The next house is much larger and I don't remember if it had any particular significance.
They have carriages (open and closed) which people can have rides around the town in but we did the walking tour.
