ABC Wednesday: M is for Mailbox

There are as many different decorative mailboxes in my neighborhood as there are minds to come up with them. My mailbox isn't included because it isn't anything special until May when my azaleas bloom and cover it with blossoms. I think my favorite of these is the top far right hand one where they built a little stone house to surround the mailbox. That mailbox house also has a small garden bed which will be pretty when the flowers bloom.

ABC Wednesday: The Letter M

The light posts around Measurement, Inc. in Durham, NC form the letter M.
abcwedMDSCN2669
The abbreviation for Measurement, Inc. is MI.
abcwedMDSCN2666
I think the lamp posts look like the letter M with an I in the middle forming the Measurement, Inc. abbreviation.

ABC Wednesday: M is for morning glory

Marvelous Magnificent Morning Glory
abcwedmfIMG_6542a
Morning glories don't bloom until late summer here so I had to go to my photo archives.
abcwedmfIMG_6524
I love morning glories but they can be invasive.
abcwedmgIMG_9874
It was hard to decide which summer shots to use as I've photographed them a lot.
abcwedmf2IMG_1416
I decided to try and show some of the different varieties that spring up in my yard.
abcwedfg2IMG_1409
I have more of the purplish ones than the other varieties.
abcwedmg2IMG_6618
The vine below was climbing around my roses so eventually I had to remove it.
abcwedmg2IMG_7377
The next one had a visitor.
abcwedmornglorb
The last variety has smaller flowers than the others but larger leaves.

ABC Wednesday: M is for Magenta

Magenta mixes in with the multi-colored magnificent magical and maybe even mysteriously moody sky.

ABC Wednesday: Mud

After a downpour last week, the dogwood blossoms fell from the tree and were mired in mud.
abcwedmudDSCN9823
Since one of the definitions of mire is a muddy ground, I guess mired in mud may be redundant. Kind of like saying mired in mire.
abcwedmudDSCN9822
The last two shots are from several winters ago of frozen mud.
abcwedmudIMG_6460
I like the crunchy sound of frozen mud.

ABC Wednesday: M is for mile marker

They have new mile markers on some of the greenway paths in my city.

1abcwedmmDSCN9888
Aesthetically I prefer the old ones which were all unfinished wood like the trail marker below.
abcwedmmIMG_3731
However, I suspect the new ones may last longer.
1abcwedmmDSCN9877
There are still a lot of unfinished wood ones which serve a variety of purposes besides marking miles.
abcwedIMG_7869
One problem with the mile markers is there are so many different starting places for the same trails that I can't ever remember what the starting point for the mileage is.
abcwedmmIMG_7870
At Shelley Lake some people park at the art center and take the trail above down to the lake.
1abcwedmmDSCN9804
Others parking at the same place choose to take the steps above down to the lake.
1abcwedmmDSCN9826
Some people park at the dam and walk up to the lake as shown above. The shot below is another trail people take from the opposite side of the lake to the marked trail. I take the one below when walking from my house which is nearby.
1abcwedDSCN9631
My point is it doesn't matter what style marker is used, if you don't know the starting point for the mileage, you don't know how far you've walked. Click for the home of ABC Wednesday.

ABC Wednesday: M is for Mack and More

M is for a Mack truck I spotted almost a mile away. I didn't realize what it was until I got closer.

abcwedm5852
I realized this Mack was a mixer after I parked and got my camera out.
abcwedmandm5853
The next day I spotted a Mazola milk truck moving by with a moo cow leaping.

ABC Wednesday: M is for Moss

Mossy mountains make me merry.

Photobucket

Moving across mossy mountain rocks may be mired in mishaps if your footing isn't steady.

Photobucket

Moss on the sides of the mountain trails are easier to maneuver through without mistakes.

Photobucket

Moss on steep rocks heading up the mountains may be messy if you miss making your step carefully.

Photobucket

Mountain moss may seem easier to make your way on with flat areas but in combination with mixed roots and wet ground may be tricky.

Photobucket

By the way, the moss in these photographs is of a variety of kinds but I call it mountain moss because all of the shots were taken in the mountains. The third and last shot were taken in the southern Virginia mountains and the rest were taken in the northern North Carolina mountains.
