I photographed this turkey several years ago while hiking on the Appalachian trail. This time of the year, I'm thankful that I'm not a turkey.

ABC Wednesday: T is for Tire

Tired tires with low tread make good tire swings.

To me it looks like the dogs are considering trying out the tire swing behind the fence below.

ABC Wednesday: T is for Tide

Theoretically I thought that I could show ocean tides going in and out through shots I've taken during vacations at Atlantic Beach, NC through the years.

Typical of me though, nothing is as easy as I think it will be.

I'm pretty sure the first shot was taken when the tide was going out and the second when the tide was coming in.

Perspective can be a factor though, for example with the third shot I was shooting from the porch at the cottage and included the dunes. I have no idea if that was taken at high or low tide although my guess would be high tide.

In a way though, given the fact that there is time in between high and low tide, these shots could be in the middle of high and low or a third of the way through . . .

There are tide tables for this beach but checking online I only saw future estimates for tides not ones showing the tides times in the past.

Thankfully though, I think I managed quite a few T words in this post in spite of non specific tidal information. Click for the home of ABC Wednesday.

ABC Wednesday: T is for Tamarack

Tamarack is located in Beckley, WV and includes a wide variety of works by West Virginia artists, crafts people and cooks.

Tourists tired of trekking on trails can toddle in for food to taste, a performance, or a little shopping. There is a theatre for music and other shows.

There are galleries which include works by WV artists. The driftwood sculpture above (Early Dawn) and below (Forest Guardian) are by Karen Sparks (Nicholas County)

I think the ladies sitting below look tipsy and they made me titter.

There are artisans in residence who work in studios at Tamarack.

If you are visiting Beckley, WV and torrential rains threaten to drive you indoors you can spend a long time looking around Tamarack and not see everything.

I could take a long time looking at pottery which I enjoy. There were traditional styles of pottery as shown below and also some very unusual styles too.

I also like the way some of the sections overlap with a mixture of types of products.

I would be tempted by the wooden bowls if I could afford the tags with the price.

I also enjoy mixes of glass which I bet would tinkle if tapped.

Try as I might I think I've worked all the T words I can into this post about Tamarack. Although come to think of it, the pieces of patchwork quilts could qualify as tiles of a type. Also, we did have a tasty lunch and although they had trout on the menu, I had something else but can't recall what it was.

ABC Wednesday: T is for tile

The tile I used when I remodeled my bathroom was also used for a landing at the bottom of my deck stairs leading to the garden.

I have a bathroom garden, so named because I created it years ago when the remodeling crew killed the grass beside my driveway where they tossed the debris before carting it off. I have assorted tile for edging which a friend gave me when it was left over from various projects. The bathroom garden is surrounded with tile, rocks, and other things. The shot below was taken in May of this year because at the moment that garden has gone to sleep for the winter.

I like these tile tables but they are all too expensive for me to buy.
