That's My World Tuesday: Road Trip to the NC coast

I always enjoy taking photographs on road trips when someone else is doing the driving.

Much of the way, from the triangle area which is in the central Piedmont of NC to the east where the coastal region of NC is, there are miles and miles of farmland.

On the way to the beach I spotted acres of sunflowers and I got the shot above from across the highway.

On the way home I was looking out for the sunflower farm and managed to get a few shots but they are a blur since the driver didn't slow down, not that I asked him to because I didn't.
my world a corn IMG_2407
There are always plenty of corn fields to photograph at various stages.

I wonder what it's like for the people who live on their farms which are on the side of a busy highway. It's so rural in some ways but there is a lot of highway traffic.

The last shot is the train track which runs through the middle of one of the main roads in Morehead City, NC. I've noticed that a lot in eastern NC. There will be train tracks in the middle of the main town road with the tracks laid between the opposing lanes of traffic. A little tidbit I learned about from the NCRR History site is that in 1926 residents in Goldsboro, NC who were unhappy with the location of the RR tracks on Centre street removed them in the middle of the night and they weren't replaced. I have this vision of angry town people with their sledge hammers, crowbars, and whatever tools it takes to lift off the tracks. I wouldn't have a clue how to do it even if I was angry about where the tracks were put.

Man, I can practically see the heat in that shot of Morehead. Whew! But I know that stretch of US 70 very well. Nice work!

Beautiful shots of your journey. Many of these look like Ohio farmland and fields. I will be traveling that way to the beach next month.

i don't think i could move those tracks even if i had the tools. those rails are very heavy. i have to wonder how many men & women it took to remove them? love your pics especially the sunflowers. hope all is well.

Driving (fast) beside fields of sunflowers would be wonderful - bouquets of them here in CO are expensive! (I wouldn't ask my Husband to slow down either!) I enjoyed your train track story.

it seems that we both caught the same bug and we are now both afflicted with drive-by-itis. what wonderful sights you saw along the way.

have a lovely week.

Joining MyWorld for the first time.

The greens and blues really make the landscape sing.

Marvellous Summer Greens! That's what I noticed when I was in NC during our drive to Charlotte from Raleigh, the green countryside is just awesome! Space aplenty!

Thanks for taking me to a nostalgic trip.

Wonderful photo essay of eastern north carolina. I like the blur effect in the sunflower shot - not slowing down worked.
