This post includes photographs I took between January 12 and January 18.
It was a mixed week with mostly overcast skies, rain, and freezing rain but the sun did come out from time to time.
I managed to get some ice shots Wednesday morning while giving my car a chance to defrost and for the tow trucks to move the early accidents out of the way.
Part of the creek feeding into Shelley Lake have frozen but the lake itself hasn't frozen yet.
The lake doesn't freeze every winter but the past 4 or 5 years it has frozen over for at least part of the winter.
I know the water birds like it better when it doesn't freeze.
The lake shots are ones I took on Saturday.
Saturday was sunny with warmer temperatures but the wind made it feel much colder than it was.
This week is supposed to be mild but we have a chance of snow over the weekend (January 23).
I would enjoy a pretty weekend snow but don't want to deal with the commute from Raleigh to Durham in the snow.
There are too many nuts that drive the route I go to work on.
Even in perfect conditions they weave in and out to gain an inch and usually lose their gains even if they don't cause wrecks.
It amuses me when cars cut in front of me and then change lanes and cut in front of people beside me and in the end I stay in my lane being careful and pass them when they get stuck in a lane not moving. Click here for nature notes and here for Our World Tuesday.

I like the way you drive! I am going to tell Bill to let himself be amused rather than cranky when other drivers behave like that -- drivers are terrible here, but at least there is no snow.
I like the way you make pictures too -- but you already knew that!
Be careful out there.
Love the series of pictures. The crescent moon looks amazing.
A wonderful series of photos! I love the moon and die sky! Gorgeous!
I like your last comments about the drivers. A bit like the tortoise and the hare story.
Beautiful series of nature shots! And the moon shot is so elegant!
Happy Week to you,
artmusedog and carol
Love those cotton ball clouds!! Beautiful captures for the day as always, Carver!! Thanks for sharing!!
I like how the sun has begun to shine through. Winter is almost getting over.
What lovely winter light in these shots.
I like this post a lot, showing us what made an impression in your world for a week. Have a great week.
Wonderful series, Carver. Since retiring, I do not miss the crazy drivers on the way to work.. I love the crescent moon, ducks and the pretty sky shots..
Sounds like we are annoyed and amused by the same kinds of drivers, Carver! So far your winter looks great!
wonderful collection of photos
your world looks like our autumn
thanks for sharing
