ABC Wednesday: B is for Ball

I wasn't too surprised to spot this baseball when I was walking.

The path I was taking went past a High School Baseball park.

However, I was surprised by the tennis ball in the baseball fence.

The tennis court was on the other side of the school about 1/4 mile from the baseball fence.

Our World Tuesday: There and Here

I had to work in Durham, NC, U.S. several times last week.

The first shot is of the bell tower of a Church I frequently photograph when stuck at a stop light on the way to the office.
ourworldDSCN9097
The water tower above is visible from both of the parking lots I use depending on which of the offices I'm going to.

The reflection in the Brodie-Duke Building window above is of the BC Building both of which are owned by the company I work for.
ourworldDSCN9121
The shot above is of the Brodie-Duke building. Measurement, Inc. bought a number of buildings in the former warehouse district and renovated them to be used as offices.

The shot above and the rest of the shots are from walks in my neighborhood in Raleigh, NC, U.S.
ourworldDSCN9143
I've been walking every day for the past 12 days although some days have been too wet and cold for me to deal with my camera.
ourworldDSCN9146
The shot above is of the Optimist Park Pool which is covered up in the winter for year round swimming.
ourworldDSCN9148
The Optimist Park is a few blocks from my house and my daughter and I used to walk there to swim when she was growing up.
ourworldDSCN9159
The Optimist Trail leads to the Shelley Lake trail.
ourworldDSCN9195
On a few days last week the creek that runs beside the Optimist trail, and feeds into the creek that feeds into the Shelley Lake creek, was partially frozen.
ourworldDSCN9197
We haven't had any snow yet this winter but one day when I was walking it started snowing for about 10 minutes.
ourworldDSCN9244
If I hadn't been walking I would have completely missed the fact that we had a miniscule amount of snow.
ourworldDSCN9337
I hope we get at least one decent snow this winter.
ourworldDSCN9454
Last winter it didn't snow until February.
ourworldDSCN9580
When I walk to the Optimist Park and trail I always looks to see what new fanciful items have been added to the house below.
ourworldDSCN9606
It reminds me of a fairy tale house in some ways. They are gradually replacing the siding and brick with mixed materials.
ourworldDSCN9613
The last two shots are from a walk at Shelley Lake on Sunday.
ourworldDSCN9791
The gulls and cormorants were fishing in the same part of the lake.

The weekend in black and white: shadows

This week I had trouble narrowing down which shot to use.
theweekendbwDSCN9162
I knew I was going to use one of the shadow shots I took on a recent walk.
theweekendbwDSCN9245
The difficulty was that I took around 40 shadow shots.
theweekendbwDSCN9263
In a way I wish there hadn't been evergreens mixed with the deciduous trees because what I wanted was to have clean horizontal and vertical lines.
theweekendbwDSCN9267
Since I didn't have one perfect shot, I went with four moderately successful ones. Click for the home of the weekend in black and white.

SkyWatch Friday: Sunrise to Sunset

For this week, I decided to take one day from sunrise to sunset.
skywatchDSCN8606b
I went out early on this particular day to help out the birds because it was so cold.
skywatchDSCN8610
I was rewarded with a beautiful sunrise.
skywatchDSCN8614
I've noticed that sunrise in the winter tends to be more colorful than sunset which is the opposite of how it is here in the summer.
skywatchDSCN8628
Even picking one day to feature this week, I had trouble narrowing down the shots.
skywatchDSCN8650
I was working from home and took a break to walk at the lake near my house.
skywatchDSCN8771
The sky was very dynamic.
skywatchDSCN8780
There were many good reflections in the lake.
skywatchDSCN8816
I've used other shots from this walk for other posts this week so I hope these shots aren't too similar to ones I've already used.
skywatchDSCN8829
I like the barren ground on the hills below in contrast to the sky. There are so many evergreens that many of the trees are green year round.
skywatchDSCN8845
The remaining shots were taken at sunset.
skywatchDSCN8910
I like the way the clouds and contrails give a sense of movement above.
skywatchDSCN8917
At the end of the sunset the sky was colored with pastels.
