Our World Tuesday: Squatters

I am always amazed at how the Canada Geese move into this residential area and take over the lawns.

This isn't my neighborhood. I think the geese have so much land and water at the lake near my house that they don't need to forage in the neighborhoods close to me.

I'm not sure why they end up on lawns in this particular residential area.

It may be because there is a small lake near this neighborhood but not any land to speak of surrounding it.

The geese may have to forage on the lawns to find enough to eat.

I notice the geese at the lake near me, are often on the fields in the winter as opposed to hanging out in the water.

They don't have to start walking out into my neighborhood because they have so much space in the labyrinth of parks and trails near me.

However, in the residential area where I shot these geese, they don't have the space to move around without heading out on the streets to find lawns to explore.

Ah, the ubiquitous Canada Goose!

You’d think that these lovely geese would have discovered better pickings somewhere else. They are a pretty sight but no doubt leave messes on lawns and would be more content if there were more natural settings available to them. I suppose they are just passing through. But it is interesting that they are so comfortable around humans. :)

I have never seen them on a front lawn before, that is a pretty large gathering. The fertilizer will not doubt help the lawn.

Geese are interesting to watch. I had a similar theme this week but mine are in the water. They were very entertaining.

I haven't seen so many geese on a front lawn before -and the 'fertilizer' will not help the lawn!

I've written about my love-hate relationship with the Canada Geese (when we're in Oregon)..I'm guessing the people who own those homes/lawns would leave out the word "love" -- I would not want to step on that lawn!

They are purty to look at tho ;>)

Oh, my! I'm sure these folks don't much appreciate what the geese leave for them, but they are a beautiful critter. Sad that there isn't enough land for them. Humans do tend to take over, don't we?!!!?!!!

They do seem to take over where ever they are. I feel sorry for the homeowners and the lawn. great post and photos.

It is understandable that the geese seek out the mown lawns they are, after all, grass eaters and the short grass is their mainstay. Great shots.

You do not have to mow or feed your lawn this Spring... it will grow like, hire in Holland they say... like cabbage... ;-))))
Really amazing photo's of the geese!
