Our World Tuesday: Walking on the First Day of 2012

We couldn't have asked for a better day to walk than the first day of 2012.

The gulls seemed to be enjoying themselves too.

I was surprised there weren't more people out enjoying a walk at the lake.

I'm always surprised by how many more people will walk in the summer on a hot day than on a pleasantly cool day in the winter.

I understand why people might stay in when it's very cold but the new year started off with a pleasantly cool, sunny day.

I didn't even need a heavy jacket, just a sweater and light jacket.

The past few years the lake and creek have frozen for part of the winter but no signs of that so far this winter.

Our weather has been jumping around a lot and the colder days and nights haven't lasted long. My bird baths have frozen some nights in December but it has been easy to get the ice out of them. There haven't been any hard blocks of ice, even in the shallow bird baths so far.

What a lovely capture of the soaring gull, Carver! I, too, love to walk in the cooler weather when it is quieter and bare branches reveal nature’s wonders that were hidden in the leafy summer. Looks like you are off to a wonderfully fit start in the New Year. :)

Don't you just love a day like that with the sun shining and casting lacy tree shadows, some browsing geese and white snowflakes of gulls against the blue sky?

I suppose the people who stayed home were nursing sore heads after the night's celebrations.

I wish you a winter full of wonderful walks . . .

Perfect way to celebrate the New Year Carver! That first picture of the soaring gull would make a great New Year card -- just speaks of hope and high aspirations.

I hope your entire year is as beautiful as it was on the first day! Thank you for sharing.

I never tire of photos of gulls. Never. And what a lovely walk you had. You're right, walking in cool weather makes so much more sense, but perhaps people walk by the lake in summer hoping for a cooling breeze off the water.
All the best for 2012.

The weather has been lovely here in California as well, allowing Hubby and me to keep up with our daily walks.
I'm enjoying it but beginning to worry, we need rain.

You have to have the most BEAUTIFUL spot to go for walks anywhere. These shots are all awesome. I am so jealous of your being able to photograph the waterfowl so up close and personal. Your photography is superb....but I think have told you that many, many times. What grand shots to come home to after my first day back at school. Thanks for brightening my very cold and frigid afternoon. genie
